The following are examples of class descriptions and residency options offered by Flyaway at various times.
See Events page for more information.
POST-MODERN TECHNIQUE
Kreiter's technique synthesizes
the joint-based eloquence of release work, the spring and quick inversions
manifested in acrobatic movement, and a calculated embrace of disorientation.
Using release, arm strength, and flexibility of the spine, this technique
class investigates a physicality which expands the body's capacity
for both clarity and abandon. The warm-up focuses on the body's skeletal,
fluid and muscular systems; across the floor skills include rolls, falls,
jumps and runs, culminating in an athletic movement combination.
AERIAL TECHNIQUE
This class introduces students
to dancing off the ground. Combining principles from modern dance technique, Chinese Pole Acrobatics, dance trapeze, rock climbing and gymnastics, the class focuses on developing physical
strength, patterns of circular and pendulum flight, climbing techniques,
and improvisational partnerships with moving objects.
UPSIDE-DOWN
MOVEMENT
Upside-down Movement
introduces students to various techniques of inverted motion. The class
focuses on concepts of release, momentum, and alignment. Arm strength,
fluidity of the spine, and experiments with balance are used to explore
movement invention. The class includes partnering, improvisation, and
skills repetition. Upside-down Movement can be taught as a workshop,
Master Class or an ongoing series. The class is useful for choreographers,
technical dancers, acrobats and improvisers.
CONTACT
IMPROVISATION
This class embraces both
the risk and subtlety of sharing weight. In solo, partnered and group
improvisations, students investigate suspension, inversion and disorientation;
students play with gravity--how it liberates and how it directs the
body in motion. The material includes specific skills as well as scores
for duet and ensemble interaction.
SITE-SPECIFIC COMPOSITION
This is a process-oriented
composition class which offers approaches for generating physical resources
for performance. Students will explore image, political concepts, and/or
the architecture/apparatus of a given site as a springboard for movement
invention.
