"The Seed Project: Summer Workshop with SF Oasis for Girls" July 3- August 23, 2006

This project features a collaboration with SF Oasis for Girls and the teenage girls they serve. Guided by company members and informed by our creative process and research on genetically modified foods, students will learn Flyaway's performance repertory, create their own dances, and perform. Students will also design and carry out an advocacy project informed by the Organic Consumers Association.

This workshop offers in-depth exploration of low -flying on a wide variety of suspended apparatus. The class focuses on developing physical strength, patterns of circular and pendulum flight, climbing techniques, and partnerships with moving objects. Students will explore an approach to dance-making that embraces physical risk. The workshop concludes with a student showing.

"The Live Billboard Project" introduces site specific dance into the commercial theater that large-scale billboard advertising has become. "Live" means four dancers will be suspended within orbillboard design.. We created the project to examine the effect of women's images in public space. We also want to encourage conversation about loss of public space to corporate messaging.
